Grannysquare Day is almost here! On August 15, 2017 be sure to post a close-up of a single granny square on Instagram and use the hashtag #grannysquareday2017 and #grannysquareday to create a virtual blanket with other Instagrammers! This year will be the fourth annual holiday hosted by the talented Susan from @suregal27 and Sandra from @mobiusgirl. These ladies have gorgeous instagram accounts and have always been a huge support to the Instagram crochet community! You can find them HERE and HERE 🙂 Let’s all get together and make Grannysquare Day extra fun!
In celebration of Grannysquare Day I made an Autumn Rainbow Granny Square. Don’t you just love these gorgeous Fall colors?! I can’t wait to make a whole blanket out of them 🙂 I am using Bernat Softee Chunky yarn so they work up quickly and they are super thick and soft!
Materials:
– Bernat Softee Chunky in Wine, Pumpkin, Glowing Gold, Seagreen, and Natural. You can shop these colors at Yarnspirations.com
– Size K crochet hook
– Large Tapestry Needle
Autumn Rainbow Granny Square Pattern:
Magic ring, chain 1 and make 8 SC in ring, join to first SC
Switch to seagreen and chain 1
Round 2: chain 4 + DC in first stitch, DC + chain 1+ DC in each stitch around, join to the 3rd chain in the beginning chain 4, fasten off.
Round 3: with gold, 2 DC cluster stitch + chain 1 + 2 DC cluster stitch in each chain 1 space from previous round. Join to first puff stitch, fasten off
Round 4: with orange, *3 DC cluster stitch + chain 1 + 3 DC cluster in first, 3 DC cluster + chain 1 + 3 DC cluster + chain 2 + 3 DC cluster +chain 1 +3 DC cluster in next (this is your corner- yes it will be tight but it fills in the granny square so nicely!), repeat from * around, join to first cluster, fasten off
Round 5: join red yarn in the middle of the chain one space of first two clusters, chain 1 and make 2 SC, SC in space between clusters, 2 SC in next chain 1 cluster space, make 2 SC + chain 2 + 2 SC in corner, 2 SC in next chain 1 cluster space, SC in space between clusters, repeat around, fasten off and weave in ends.
Remember to post A CLOSE UP of your granny square on Instagram on August 15th! Be sure to use the hashtags #grannysquareday2017 and #grannysquareday. You can post any granny square you want! And feel free to post more than one square! Just post a close up of one individual square at a time 🙂 The picture below is what I’ll be posting! Can’t wait to see it all come together!

I loved those crochet squares. They are very easy to do and you explain very well. Congratulations and keep up the great work. I have a crochet shop, who can access, I am grateful: http://www.mundodocroche.com.br/bolsa-de-praia-de-croche

Love all your patterns! Your site is my favorite–only suggestion is to make the font darker black, the light black is hard for us old people to see! And the green is impossible to see. Just a suggestion.
(I have a crochet friend who won’t even look at crochet sites unless black font is used, she’s missing out on some great blogs, but you get the idea…darker font for the old crafters!)

These are not the clearest instructions for people who are visual learners. I really like this square, please consider adding a video tutorial as well for additional clarity because after 2 hours of attempting this I am moving on to a different pattern.
