Crochet O’Go BumbleBee

Look who is buzzin onto the blog today! It’s a busy little bumblebee who is crocheted with just ONE Bernat Blanket O’Go yarn! This cute and squishy bee is a spin-off of my popular Ollie the O’Go Owl. The Bumblebee is pretty much the same pattern as the owl but with a few different embellishments like the wings, rosy cheeks, and antennae. You will also have to close the head a differently so it’s round. Very simple details that I am sure you will get the hang of in a matter of minutes!

Bernat Blanket O’Go Yarn in color ROSE GOLD is the absolute perfect mix of colors for this bee. You only need to buy one and you will separate the colors before crocheting. Just as you did with Ollie the O’Go Owl.

Materials:
– Bernat Blanket O’Go Yarn in color Rose Gold
Buy it on Yarnspirations.com!
– Size K Crochet Hook
– Two large Black Safety Eyes (20 mm)
– Poly-fil Fiber Stuffing
– Tapestry needle

Finished Size: about the same size as Ollie the Owl with is 12 x 8… not including antennae or stinger.

Bee Body and Head:
Starting with the yellow yarn from your O’Go
Magic Ring, chain 1, and make 10 SC in ring, join, chain 1

Round 2: 2 SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1 (20 SC)
Round 3: *2 SC in first stitch, 1 SC in next. Repeat from * around. Join, chain 1 (30 SC)
Round 4: SC in each stitch around, (30 SC)
Join in black yarn, chain 1
Round 5: *2 SC in first stitch, 1 SC in each of next 2 stitches. Repeat from * around. Join, chain 1 (40 SC)
Round 6-8: SC in each stitch around, join chain 1 (40 SC)
Join in yellow yarn, chain 1
Round 9-12: SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1 (40 SC)
Join in black yarn, chain 1
Round 13: SC Decrease, SC in next two stitches, Repeat around, join, chain 1 (30 SC)
Round 14: SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1
Round 15: SC Decrease, SC in next, Repeat around, join, chain 1 (20 SC)
Round 16: SC in each stitch around,
Join in yellow yarn, fasten off black yarn, chain 1
now is a good time to start stuffing the body with poly-fil
Round 17: 2 SC in each stitch around, join chain 1 (40 SC)
Round 18-23: SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1 (40 SC)
Round 24: SC Decrease, SC in next two stitches, repeat around, join, chain 1 (30 SC)
Round 25: SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1 (30 SC)
Add in safety eyes about 6 rows up from the next of the bee and 5 stitches apart
Stitch on a smile with a strand of black yarn and your tapestry needle
Round 26: SC Decrease, SC in next, repeat around, join, chain 1
Stuff with poly-fil before closing top of head
Round 27: SC Decrease until closed.
Fasten off and weave in ends.

Note: It helps to stitch the last bit of the head closed with a tapestry needle if you are having trouble getting your crochet hook into the stitches to make SC Decreases.

Antennae (make 2):
with black yarn
Magic ring, chain 1 and make 6 SC in ring, join, chain 1
Round 2: SC in each stitch around, joinm chain 1 (6 SC)
Round 3: SC Decrease, SC in next, repeat, chain 1 (4 SC)
Round 4-5: SC in each stitch around, join chain 1 (4 SC)
Stitch on antennae to top of head about 2 rounds apart from each other.

Wings (make 2):
with pink yarn (you could also use black yarn for the wings!)
Magic ring, chain 1 and make 10 SC in ring, join, chain 1
Round 2: 2 SC in first, SC in next, Repeat around, join, chain 1 (15 SC)
Round 3-4: SC in each stitch aroumd, join, chain 1
Round 5: SC Decrease, SC in next, repet around, join, chain 1
Round 6-7: SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1
Fasten of leaving long tail to stitch the wings onto the back of bee where the last black stripe is. You do not need to stuff the wings will poly-fil fiber stuffing.


Cheeks (make 2):
with pink yarn
Magic ring, chain 1 and make 8 SC in ring, join, fasten off leaving long tail
Stitch the rosy cheeks onto the bee face on either side of the smile.
You can stitch the cheeks on before or after you close the head.



Stinger (optional):
Your Bee will not be able to sit up if you add a stinger to the bottom so this part is optional!
with black yarn
Magic Ring, chain 1 and make 4 SC in ring, join, chain 1
Round 2: 2 SC in first, SC in next, repeat around , join, chain 1 (6 SC)
Round 3-4: SC in each stitch around, join, fasten off leaving long tail (6 SC)
Stitch on stinger to the very bottom of the bee.
